About Alex
Alex is an endorsed Privately Practicing Midwife, based on Sydney's Lower North Shore. She offers private midwifery services throughout the Greater Sydney region.
Alex has over 5 years of experience as a Registered Midwife and has lately made the transition to private practice offering homebirth care.
She has experience across the midwifery continuum of care and has worked in tertiary all risk services, low risk continuity of care services, and homebirth.
Alex also has experience facilitating antenatal and early parenting classes and has previously worked as a secondary school teacher in Australia and England.
When not attending births, Alex enjoys attending ballet classes, knitting and sewing and writing her novel.
Services We Offer at Blooming Hearts
Antenatal Care
Alex provides antenatal care either in your home or in her own clinic commencing in early pregnancy.
Each appointment consists of:
- physical checks for mother and baby
- individualised education and pooling of information
- health screening- Alex is endorsed to order ultrasounds and pathology as well as refer to other health services providers for those mothers wishing to attend these
- birth, postnatal and lactation planning
- relationship building to build trust and rapport between us and your and your family/ support people
Labour and Birth
Alex provides care for you in your home during active labour and birth.
We arrive to your birth space with all required birth equipment to monitor mother and baby's wellbeing and the progression of labour as well as oxygen, resuscitation and medication for mother and baby in case of need. We also carry paperwork required for birth registration.
A second midwife, who you will usually have the opportunity to meet in third trimester, is also in attendance at your birth.
After your baby is born we remain with you for several hours post birth to ensure mother and baby are well.
In the case of transfer to hospital, we will accompany you and continue providing support.
Postnatal Care
After the birth Alex will provide postnatal care home visits daily for the first four days, then a visit at one, two, fours and six weeks. This schedule is flexible and subject to change depending on the needs of mother, baby and family.
During the postnatal period Alex is available between these times for any concerns or questions.
Postnatally we provide:
- breastfeeding support
- maternal mental health support including birth debriefing
- vitamin K neonatal supplement
- Newborn Screening Test
- jaundice surveillance
- newborn weight and milestone monitoring
